Another reconditioned bike ready for sale

GT avalanche 3
Cycletastic has just completed reconditioning work on this donated frameset. Now a complete bike we are asking for £175 to cover the cost of new parts fitted to the bike and the labour time getting it roadworthy.
Cycletastic works with local people to encourage better bike maintenance. Working on bikes like these young people, unemployed and other people from disadvantaged backgrounds can learn new skills for the trade or for there own personal use keeping them mobile on the road. Cycletastic operates on a not-for-profit basis.
If you would like to get this bike please come to the farmers market at salusbury road on sunday 18th December, or contact us from the contacts page.

Come Cycle With Us Sat 10/12/11 10am

Cycletastic is taking advantage of traffic free Oxford Street on Saturday to encourage local cyclists to join us on a group ride to the shops.

We depart from Kilburn Square (by Argos) at 10am. It will be a gentle ride with a few short hills as we thread past Maida Vale, St Johns Wood, Regents Park and Harley Street to park at the rear of John Lewis. Participants can then head off and explore the shops for a few hours picking up a few bargains on the way before we meet again to return to Kilburn by no later than 4pm.

Riding in a group with our Volunteers and Marshals will give you peace of mind as we work to ensure a safe passage on the road. Your shopping can be carried back in our bike trailers (towed by able volunteers) but we do encourage you to also bring a rucksack and/or panniers to help ensure there is space for all.

Please see our previous posts for full details.

Winter Events with Cycletastic

After a few quiet weeks we now have a programme of events for the Winter Months.
Saturday        10th December 2011       Pop To the Shops Fun Bike Ride
Sunday           18th December 2011       Build your Bike & Bike Repairs
Saturday        17th February 2012         Bike Maintenance Training Day
Sunday           18th February 2012         Dr Bike @ the Farmers Market

Join us in December for a shopping trip to Oxford Street. Our Marshals will guide you there and our volunteers will haul your shopping back in our Bike trailers. You can view the provisional route plan here (http://bit.ly/tL36Vw).

On 18th December we will be indoors at the Farmers Market on Salusbury Road. We want to help you get that bike you have purchased as a gift into a perfect roadworthy condition safe and ready for Christmas day. Some bike shops are too busy at Christmas to assemble all the bikes they sell so might provide the bike in a box or charge for the build service. Other shops may not even offer the bike built especially if you buy from a supermarket or other non specialist retailer. Cycletastic is on hand to get the bike assembled and fully checked over. Come and see us at the Farmers Market and we can talk you through the process. We will also be offering basic safety checks at this for cyclists that already have a bike. Discount accessories and stocking fillers will also be available.

Volunteers needed at the shed 11/12/11

Cycletastic is calling on all volunteers repeat or new to come down to the bike shed and assist in repairing our donated cycles ready for sale. The winter months are the perfect opportunity for us to meet and work together uninterupted to get our bikes roadworthy.

The aims of the event is to try and introduce all volunteers to the workings of the bike shed; how to set up, where are the tools, where are the parts, what costs what, and how to pack down at the end of the day. All volunteers will also be shown safe working practices at the shed to ensure our clients and volunteers are kept safe.

Ideally we would like to build our core volunteers group to allow us to open more frequently with less demand on specific volunteers. A suggested time frame for volunteering would be between April and October around every 6 to 8 weeks. A timetable will be developed prior to the start of the season.

If you feel you could offer some of your time on weekends in 2012 we would love to meet you at this event.

This event will be partially structured so we would like all volunteers to arrive at the same time. It is not so important that you stay to the end but bear in mind all volunteers need to be aware how to close the shed and the more hands the quicker it takes to pack up so it would be must better to stay to the end.

In return for assistance all volunteers get free;
snacks, tea and coffee,
basic bike parts (ie cables, brake blocks, inner tubes any second hand spares),
First dibs on donated bikes and parts
Higher value parts and accessories at no more than cost price.
