Winter Events with Cycletastic

After a few quiet weeks we now have a programme of events for the Winter Months.
Saturday        10th December 2011       Pop To the Shops Fun Bike Ride
Sunday           18th December 2011       Build your Bike & Bike Repairs
Saturday        17th February 2012         Bike Maintenance Training Day
Sunday           18th February 2012         Dr Bike @ the Farmers Market

Join us in December for a shopping trip to Oxford Street. Our Marshals will guide you there and our volunteers will haul your shopping back in our Bike trailers. You can view the provisional route plan here (http://bit.ly/tL36Vw).

On 18th December we will be indoors at the Farmers Market on Salusbury Road. We want to help you get that bike you have purchased as a gift into a perfect roadworthy condition safe and ready for Christmas day. Some bike shops are too busy at Christmas to assemble all the bikes they sell so might provide the bike in a box or charge for the build service. Other shops may not even offer the bike built especially if you buy from a supermarket or other non specialist retailer. Cycletastic is on hand to get the bike assembled and fully checked over. Come and see us at the Farmers Market and we can talk you through the process. We will also be offering basic safety checks at this for cyclists that already have a bike. Discount accessories and stocking fillers will also be available.

Volunteers needed at the shed 11/12/11

Cycletastic is calling on all volunteers repeat or new to come down to the bike shed and assist in repairing our donated cycles ready for sale. The winter months are the perfect opportunity for us to meet and work together uninterupted to get our bikes roadworthy.

The aims of the event is to try and introduce all volunteers to the workings of the bike shed; how to set up, where are the tools, where are the parts, what costs what, and how to pack down at the end of the day. All volunteers will also be shown safe working practices at the shed to ensure our clients and volunteers are kept safe.

Ideally we would like to build our core volunteers group to allow us to open more frequently with less demand on specific volunteers. A suggested time frame for volunteering would be between April and October around every 6 to 8 weeks. A timetable will be developed prior to the start of the season.

If you feel you could offer some of your time on weekends in 2012 we would love to meet you at this event.

This event will be partially structured so we would like all volunteers to arrive at the same time. It is not so important that you stay to the end but bear in mind all volunteers need to be aware how to close the shed and the more hands the quicker it takes to pack up so it would be must better to stay to the end.

In return for assistance all volunteers get free;
snacks, tea and coffee,
basic bike parts (ie cables, brake blocks, inner tubes any second hand spares),
First dibs on donated bikes and parts
Higher value parts and accessories at no more than cost price.

If you are interested in any items please check the previous posts to see what may be available and get in touch through the contacts page. NOTE: the cycletastic shed is no longer open to a fixed schedule so you will need to contact us first to arrange a time to meet a volunteer.

We Want Your Green Boxes

With the introduction of the new recycling scheme by Brent Council Cycletastic is aware that your old green recycling box may now be redundant. With space at a premium in our bike shed we would gratefully receive unwanted boxes so that we can use them to sort and store our bike parts and recycling. If possible please leave your green box by thecycletastic shed on Streatley Road. Please check our contacts page for details of where we are.

End of Season Shed Closed

Due to the colder weather we are now unable to maintain a opening schedule for the Cycletastic Shed through the colder months. You may still see our volunteers down there at some point if you are passing by and feel free to approach us for a chat and we can see if we can help but we cannot guarantee assistance. It is expected that our next regular openings will commence from April 2012. Thanks to all for your support in 2011 and we look forward to seeing you next year.

STOP PRESS! Check you are subscribed to our site and be the first to know our winter programme. This may include maintenance training, doorstep repairs and discount parts.
